Evaluation
I believe that the film was rather successful. I believe we showed
the emotions of our protagonist clearly for the audience to pick up on and it
makes sense to the narrative and the story of our drama. We wanted to take
inspiration from the short film ‘Craig’s pathetic freak out’ Which draws upon
the frustration side of emotions. Dave goes through different emotions very
quickly throughout this short film and we wanted to try and show this through
our film as well.
I learnt that throughout the filming of the drama piece,
that time is important. Not necessarily the time to film the short film, but
more importantly the time of actual footage and putting it into the edit. When
we shot lots of footage, we had to choose which ones to not include because if
we did it would have taken us past our limit for the film.
Another thing I learnt is the use of space. We took lots of equipment
in the hopes of using it all. However, when we started to set it all up, we
realised that we didn’t have enough space for our actors to move around within
the scenes. So, we had to leave out the lights. I believe next time we will
need to plan a little more for where we can place lighting to make the shot
look nicer, I believe what we filmed still looks good enough.
One thing that we will do different next time, is to capture
camera audio so that we can use it to help sync up our audio with our footage. Another
thing is to try and use a different codec. Ours messed up a little bit and
caused our audio to drift out of place, despite one thing being in sync, it
would drift out of place throughout the shot. But because we didn’t have camera
audio it was harder to sync all the audio up with the footage. I believe what
we accomplished was good because of the amount of time and effort it took to
sync it all up individually, but next time if we change these couple of things,
it will make the editing process a lot easier and the outcome may be better
that it is now.
Another thing I would maybe do for next time is to add some
more things into the script to make it run a little longer or include a
different location. I believe that this would help it to run a little bit
longer and make it more interesting to watch for the audience if it had more
than one location. We would also need to keep a closer eye on continuity because
sometimes objects may move slightly, and it looks odd when watching it back.
