Evaluation

I believe that the film was rather successful. I believe we showed the emotions of our protagonist clearly for the audience to pick up on and it makes sense to the narrative and the story of our drama. We wanted to take inspiration from the short film ‘Craig’s pathetic freak out’ Which draws upon the frustration side of emotions. Dave goes through different emotions very quickly throughout this short film and we wanted to try and show this through our film as well. I learnt that throughout the filming of the drama piece, that time is important. Not necessarily the time to film the short film, but more importantly the time of actual footage and putting it into the edit. When we shot lots of footage, we had to choose which ones to not include because if we did it would have taken us past our limit for the film.   Another thing I learnt is the use of space. We took lots of equipment in the hopes of using it all. However, when we started to set it all up, we realised that we didn

Behind The Scenes / Production

Here we are setting up for the shot were our protagonist is plugging in the plug to the dvd player. We had to set up the camera to be fit for the shot with the light coming through the window while Gemma set up the microphone to record the dialogue.  We took Feloni lights with us to the set to try and set them up for professional lighting, but we ran into the issue of space. We were filming in a small room where the actors were required to move around in, the lights would have obstructed them from being able to do this. Here were filming the final scene were the actors are sat on the couch ready to watch the dvd, but they realise they forgot the remote. We had to shoot this in many different positions to see which one was the best for the scene.  This is the timeline to our rough cut. We had to change the pacing a little bit to make it fit the style better. We also had the issue of drifting audio so we had to manually sync everything up for it to look and sound rig

Planning Material

Here is a process where we went through our script and made many changes to try and improve on the story telling of our drama piece. We also added some stage directions and started a shot list for the film.

Read through

We prepared a script to read through for this workshop: We plan to make our short film to include comedy aspects, we'll do this through play on words and typical things such as 'Is it plugged in' I believe this will work for a comedy because it is something everyone considers almost instantly when something isn't working, but sometimes people don't.  We are trying to keep it to a present time so we don't have to consider issues such as fashion and people walking into shot if we filmed outside for an old timed film. The emotions that the protagonist will feel are: Frustration (When the dvd wont work), Relief (When it turns on) Annoyance (When can't send a tweet), Then happiness at the end when he sits down with his partner ready to watch the film, then ending on a funny note when the characters notice that they don't have the remote to control the DVD.

Response to 'About A Girl'

About a girl is about someone who doesn’t necessarily get along with their parents. Talking about how she would love to be a singer, having very innocent and child like manners, talking about ice creams and how her dad is a footballer ect. However, she is also keeping a large secret which is revealed at the end when she dumps a baby into the canal. The approach is a very realistic drama, almost in the style of a documentary, where the girl talks about her family and her dreams for when she grows up. Which helps to follow the drama form because it shows the character talking about lots things which causes her to rapidly change emotions/ I like the film because I believe it is successful at showing a troubled teen that may not really get along with her parents. However, I believe seeing the baby come out of the bag at the end was rather unsuccessful for the character in terms of a drama. This is because when we see the baby there isn’t really any emotional response from her. It

Documentary Evaluation

Overall I believe that the documentary went well. We managed to capture lots of vox pops and was able to create a short narrative for our main structure. Unfortunately at the start we had to change our ideas because the topic we wanted to focus on, we never captured enough supporting material to ensure that we would have a clear narrative for our documentary.
